Until now, Zen has only known hiding. He lives with his secret family of renegade droids in the silent ruins of a forgotten world, Earth now a wasteland echoing mankind's ruin. Their animal and human forms are the last memory of what Earth was. Since their human father and creator died, Zen, the reluctant leader, wants only to keep them safe, never having known life beyond their refuge.

Everything changes when the Midion army attacks. Their leader, Mog, is obsessed with eradicating all traces of mankind and their creations to preserve the belief in their divine origins. With their peace shattered and Zen’s sister Autom captured, love and desperation drive him to haunted Jara. There, Zen finds mechanical allies, green spirits, and uncovers a hidden power within them all— unlocked by the voices of mankind through their songs.
